Who are you? Just a Voice
Epiphany Message 2008:
Who are you?
Just a Voice
John 1:18-34
Who is this man who does not want to be known? Who is this man who preached and baptized thousands? Who is this man that wants no glory for himself? Who is this man who just wants to lead people to the messiah?
It is the man who is just a voice crying in the wilderness and all he cares for is people to know our Lord Jesus Christ.
He doesn’t want anything for himself. He doesn’t do anything for himself. People asked him who are you? He said just a voice. The top religious leaders asked him who he was and he said just a voice.

When people ask me who I am, I am quick to say my name and a lot of good things about myself. This man didn’t even mention his own name. When people ask who we are? We are quick to give people lots of information of how great we are and all of our achievements. Not John the Baptist.
He had one focus and one mission; not to focus on his name, his achievements, and his problems; but only to focus on leading people to Jesus Christ.

It was never about John the Baptist. It was always about Jesus Christ. Is my day about me? Is my work about me? Is my family about me? Are my friends about me? Are my dreams about me?

We can learn something from John the Baptist today on the Feast of the Epiphany. We can learn to focus less on ourselves and more on Jesus. We can learn we have no
power, but the Lord has all the power. We can learn just to be a voice crying out so people would come to know Jesus Christ. Our job is not to bring people to us or focus on us, but bring people to the one who can solve all our problems.
Remember today our job is to be a voice that leads people to Jesus Christ. This was John the Baptist’s focus and mission and I pray it can become ours.
