Hope Center

Introduction

Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Coptic Hope Center has grown over the last two and a half years to serve over 8,000 people in four different locations throughout Africa. Through the prayers, love and support of many people, the church has been blessed to be a part of the healing process for many God’s children who are suffering from the HIV virus. However, as I see so many people emotionally and physically suffering from this disease, I know there is so much more that needs to be done and needs to be done urgently, with the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. Your prayers, love and support will make a tremendous difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. “May Our Lord Jesus Christ give each one of you blessings and joy” - Bishop Paul

Hope Center For Infectious Diseases

The Coptic Hope Center for Infectious Diseases is a comprehensive HAART treatment facility jointly established by the Coptic Orthodox Mission and the University of Washington (UW) in Nairobi, Kenya and is funded by the U.S. Government PEPFAR Initiative.

The Hope Center began as a small clinic at the Coptic Hospital in early 2004 offering subsidized HIV clinical care and treatment. The clinic was the result of a nationally renown low-cost ARV program which Coptic had pioneered in the country in 2002. The Hope Clinic, as it was then called, was staffed by a team of 4 people, operated out of 3 offices and attended to approximately 5 patients per day. By December 2004, the Hope Center expanded into the current fully comprehensive and free HAART treatment facility through PEPFAR funding.

Since its expanded launch, the Center has initiated fully comprehensive and free HIV/AIDS management to over 8,000 clients;  with just a little under 5,000 on HAART accross our sites. The programmatic approach that Coptic follows is an individually focused treatment preparation and clinical monitoring system called the HAART Protocol. The HAART Protocol assesses the readiness of an individual to begin the lifelong ARV therapy both clinically and psychologically. It also ensures the delivery of comprehensive care services in the form of 3 sessions of adherence counseling, nutritional counseling, social work services, clinical monitoring for complications and semi-annual lab-testing.
