Is It A Waste
Is It A Waste?
“A woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly, fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant saying “Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given the to poor” Matthew 26: 7-9
What is the meaning of the word “Waste?”
Among the many meanings of the word is to give more than what is due. If one dollar can buy something and you pay ten dollars for it, then it is a waste. If fifty grams were enough and you offer one full kilogram, then it is a waste. If you can complete a job in three days, but instead spend five days on it, then it is a waste. Waste means you give a lot to gain less or very little in return. To give a person more than he deserves, this is a waste.
Unfortunately, even the twelve apostles thought that the woman’s offering to Jesus was too much. Instead of wasting it at Christ’s feet, she could have given it to the poor. Judas, who never called Jesus even once with the word “Lord” considered everything offered to Him a waste. This is the same way the world sees us when we offer ourselves to serve the Lord. Yet, it is only when our eyes are opened to the true worth and love of Jesus that we realize our offering is actually very little in comparison to the sacrifice He made for us. The woman at His feet recognized His saving grace, and wanted to give Him all she had in return.
Are you willing to offer all of your life or even this summer to Jesus in the mission? To truly answer this question you need to ask yourself honestly and in the spirit of prayer and fasting-“How much is Jesus’ Love valued in my eyes?”
