Box of Denying Myself
Recently, I read a beautiful story that touched me especially during this time of economic crises which hit the entire world, especially Africa. Some young people in Lebanon decided to save some money from their daily expenses to put in a box named "box of denying ourselves," which would be used to cover the needs of the orphans, widows or spiritual services. If one of them would want to buy a can of Coke, a sweet or ice cream, he would choose to deny himself and offer this money to the box. If one thought to buy new clothes or new shoes crossed his mind, he would tell himself "I do not think what I want to buy is of great necessity, so I can use my old clothes for some extra time" and he would put the money in the box.
At the end of the year, they opened the box to find a total of 13,000 USD! The potential use for the money could go to help the poor of the area or even contribute to building one of the churches in the area. This really challenged me to think that if I created a box of denying myself, I probably could not last more than a month!
Blessed are you if you do what the Lord commands us, for it is more
"Blessed to give than to receive."
